Once in a lifetime

Posting now from Asheville, North Carolina. Will be on the road again in January. Or is traveling back to the U.S. considered to still be “on the road.”

I had a rare pleasure this past weekend when I was invited to tag along on a trip to Greenville, S.C. The occasion? My daughter and granddaughter would be performing onstage at a local downtown pub.

Greenville is about an hour’s drive from Asheville. I would need a motel room for this overnight trip and found a place near where my daughter would be staying with a friend. She called it a “roach hotel.” It was clean but not sure I would argue with her assessment.

After checking in we immediately headed for downtown, where we were to meet up with friends at Mo Jo’s, where my ladies were performing. It was maybe 7 pm and we were at least 3 hours before they would go on stage. At least the drinks were cheap as we waited.

Downtown Greenville was jumping, with throngs of people on the sidewalks, restaurants full. Mo Jo’s had a decent crowd and an interesting, if limited, menu. Mostly, I babysat the table as Kim and Lena went their different ways.

Lena was first on stage, singing about seven songs. Kim sang along with her friend Michael in a set that started about midnight. Here are some shots, affected by a bright white light in front of the stage and generally poor available light for my camera, meaning movement in the photos. Oh well, you get the idea.

About 2bagsandapack

Lifetime journalist, author, magazine editor and publisher, now semi-retired and traveling the world. My plan, after living in Costa Rica for 14 months, was to visit a new country in southern Europe every three months to experience the culture and the challenge of adapting to a new environment, while on a fixed income. That plan was sidetracked when I was offered a job in Indonesia, providing an opportunity to explore Asia. Indonesia lasted for a 4 wonderful years but I have now moved on to Hua Hin, Thailand.
