Halloween at Goodies in Batam

The Goodies Girls

The Goodies Girls

We didn’t have any kind of observance for Halloween last year, although I suggested it. This year, we decided to “do it up” with a costume party, with the event coinciding with our normal Ladies Night and ladies 8-ball tournament.

We didn’t have a lot of costumes present but there were a lot of scary faces. There was a

good crowd, however, and lots of fun. Ken even had two dates – Via, who I met on Facebook, and her friend Rosa. The normal practice here is if you invite someone new for dinner, she will almost always bring a girlfriend, so I had two dates. They both had oxtail soup and rice (nasi).

I, of course, was running around taking pictures and coordinating the pool tournament, and somehow managed to forget dinner.

The Goodies staff did a great job of creating Halloween decorations from scratch. They tried to find pre-made decorations but they are not to be had in Batam. You would probably have to go across the strait to Singapore to find any. So the ladies made ghosts, spiders, spider webs, bats and goblins, and they all painted their faces.

About 2bagsandapack

Lifetime journalist, author, magazine editor and publisher, now semi-retired and traveling the world. My plan, after living in Costa Rica for 14 months, was to visit a new country in southern Europe every three months to experience the culture and the challenge of adapting to a new environment, while on a fixed income. That plan was sidetracked when I was offered a job in Indonesia, providing an opportunity to explore Asia. Indonesia lasted for a 4 wonderful years but I have now moved on to Hua Hin, Thailand.
